Our
STORY
The Library began as a project of the Melvin Junior Women's Club in 1934. It was during the Great Depression, and the members were looking for a way to provide entertainment and recreation for community residents because, in their words, "no one had much money and very few ever got out of town."

Here at the Melvin Library, we offer books for all ages and on many subjects. We subscribe to a special program that allows our little community to offer new books of the most popular authors the day they become available at the big box book stores!
We are a part of the Illinois Heartland Library System which allows us to order any book that we may not have, from other libraries, as well as subscribing to programs that send us 60 new large print books and DVD's every sixty days, so there is always something new to read or a new movie to watch.
We have a public computer for our patrons, which you can use free of charge, and copies and printouts can be made at a minimal charge. We also offer fax services that we will gladly help you with.

Pageturners Book Club
Our book club which has been meeting for over twenty years meets the second Monday of each month at 7 P.M. We don't do books in December but we do meet for a holiday get-together.
Everyone is invited to join us, you can come or call the library to see what our book of the month is and become a Pageturner!
